Strengthening Regional Security: Advanced K9 Trainings Held in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan
As part of BOMCA 10 Programme‘s ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement capabilities across Central Asia, two specialized K9 training activities were successfully conducted, fostering regional cooperation and aligning with EU best practices.These trainings were delivered by experiencedK9 experts from Lithuania and Latvia.
The training in Kyrgyzstan, held in April 2025, focused on advanced drug detection techniques, while the training in Kazakhstan, conducted in June 2025,emphasized explosive detection. Both activities aimed to equip national training centers with standardized methodologies and foster cross-border collaboration through joint exercises and expert-led discussions.
A key focus of the program was promoting institutional commitment, recognizing the strategic role of K9 units in national security, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of K9 services. Regional K9 competitions were organized to assess practical skills, encourage best practices, and facilitate knowledge exchange among participating teams.
Together, these initiatives represent a significant step toward the professionalization of K9 services, strengthening their role within national security frameworks and contributing to a safer, more resilient region.
