EU-funded programs contributed to the strengthening of analytical units in Central Asia countries
In April 2024 the Border Management Programme in Central Asia in partnership with European Union funded project LEICA (Law Enforcement in Central Asia) started a series of national workshops in Central Asian countries for the officers from analytical units responsible for risk analysis and crime identification. Experts from the State Border Guard Service and Customs Criminal Service of Lithuania conducted workshops in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Workshops for law enforcement agencies in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are planned for September. During these workshops experts stressed the role of data analytics in crime detection and investigation, introduced models of analytical units in law enforcement agencies, discussed case studies on data sources used in crime detection and investigation, and presented data analysis tools and techniques, as well as data management systems. After national workshops each of the Central Asian countries will be provided with Recommendations on the development/strengthening of the analytical activities of law enforcement authorities aimed at the detection and investigation of cross-border crimes.
