State Border Guard Service conducted workshops for first-line officers in Turkmenistan and Tajikistan

BOMCA 10 project’s experts in February 2024 started a series of national workshops in Central Asian countries for first-line officers dealing with profiling potential traffickers of human beings and people smugglers. On 29 February – 1 March and 4 – 5 March experts from the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania in cooperation with the European Union funded project LEICA (Law Enforcement in Central Asia) conducted workshops in Turkmenistan and Tajikistan for representatives of law enforcement authorities. Participants represented customs, border guards, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the respective countries. BOMCA experts on risk management and document fraud together with representatives of project LEICA introduced the concept of risk indicators, familiarized first-line officers with relevant risk indicators, risk profiles, and analytical products related to these cross-border crimes, introduced EU practice in profiling, and familiarized participants with the use of IT tools in risk profiling. BOMCA 10 project foresees providing Central Asia countries with a Booklet on basic risk profiles and risk indicators after every national workshop. This activity will enhance knowledge of risk profiling in trafficking in human beings and people smuggling as well as encourage the need for further improvement in this specific area of law enforcement activity.
