BOMCA project builds the capacity of criminal intelligence officers in Central Asia
At the end of March and at the beginning of April, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) held national workshops in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) for crime intelligence officers. One more workshop is planned for June in Kyrgyzstan, after which a series of national workshops for crime intelligence officers will be completed.
Although all participants - criminal intelligence officers from Central Asia law enforcement authorities - were familiar with the basic knowledge of criminal intelligence, experts from the State Border Guard Service of the Republic of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau managed to enhance participants’ awareness of criminal intelligence investigation techniques and to increase their capacity to combat migrant smuggling and trafficking in human beings. During the workshops experts not only presented the theory of criminal intelligence but encouraged participants to share their views and opinions, asked questions and invited participants to share their practice, gave particular examples and recommendations, moreover, participants have been involved in discussions and practical exercises. Conducting the seminars in such a way made them very valuable and successful.
